What is Psoriasis?

      Are you dealing with Psoriasis?

Since Psoriasis has often been related to an impaired liver function, immune system glitch or toxins trapped in the body, I would recommend aids for the bowel, kidney, liver, gall bladder and bloodstream with herbs AND suggest a very "clean" diet.  For external use on elbows, scalp and other affected areas, I would recommend an herbal salve to be applied daily to aid these areas.  As a Master Herbalist, you’ll find that I incorporate not just herbs but nutrition, exercise and water into my education to natural healing.

An Extended Herbal Cleanse is what I would use to aid the bowel, kidney, liver, gall bladder and bloodstream.  I like to use the Extended Herbal Cleanse listed on my website.  Dr. Christopher's Complete Tissue & Bone Formula Salve is something I like to apply externally.  Other equally important suggestions are listed below:

*Nutrition – eat 1-2 servings of cold-water fish weekly, make sure you are eating protein at every meal (preferably grass-fed, no antibiotics, free-range, humanely raised, etc.), cut down or eliminate refined carbohydrates, processed foods and sugars.  Eat LOTS of vegetables (carrots, chile peppers and beets are particularly good for you) and try to make 50% of your vegetables RAW.  Avoid alcohol, smoking, eat leaner cuts of beef or if you eat grass-fed beef you don’t have to worry about lean cuts then.  Flax seed, honey, olive oil and turmeric are all good for psoriasis.  Other things to avoid include fried and fatty foods, grapefruit juice and tomatoes including tomato-based dishes.  You may want to keep a food log to determine which foods bother you the most.

*Sun – expose affected skin to sunlight daily for about 15-20 minutes of morning or evening sun.  Never during prime times.

*Water – try to drink 10-12 glasses of good, clean water daily.

*Teas – chamomile tea and green tea have shown benefits to psoriasis.

*Exercise – do whatever exercise you can enjoy to work up a sweat…toxins come out through the skin as well and sweating is good for you.
